Fuel duty and the cost of living

Early day motion 1013, tabled 21 October 2026 by James McMurdock (Independent). Signed by 1 member.

That this House recognises the continued pressure that fuel costs place on households, commuters and businesses; notes the importance of affordable road transport to the movement of goods and the wider economy; believes that further increases in fuel duty would risk worsening the cost of living and increasing costs throughout supply chains; calls on the Chancellor of the Exchequer to rule out further increases in fuel duty in the forthcoming Budget and to consider further reductions to ease the burden on motorists; and further calls on the Government to consider an Essential User Rebate for road haulage businesses and other essential commercial operators.
