Rural fuel duty relief

Early day motion 1054, tabled 27 October 2026 by Tim Farron (Liberal Democrat). Signed by 1 member.

That this House recognises the disproportionately high fuel costs faced by rural communities, where reliance on cars is often unavoidable due to limited public transport; supports the Rural Fuel Duty Relief Scheme in reducing prices at the pump; notes that only one postcode in the whole of Cumbria currently qualifies for the Rural Fuel Duty Relief Scheme; believes that relief should be available to many more rural communities in Cumbria and nationwide; and calls on the Government to enact the Liberal Democrat Emergency Transport Package, cutting fuel duty by 10p (cutting prices by 12p per litre), slashing all bus fares to £1, cutting rail fares by 10%, and cutting VAT on public EV charging from 20% to 5%.
